Other Injection Treatments

Other Injection Treatments – specialist-assessed alternatives for orthopedic conditions

Complementary injection treatments when biological methods are not the primary choice

In addition to our biological treatments such as PRP, ACP Max, and stem cell therapy, Elit Ortopedi in Stockholm also offers other injection-based treatments for orthopedic conditions.

These are used in carefully selected cases where the treatment can provide significant pain relief, improved function, or facilitate rehabilitation – often as a complement or alternative when biological treatment is not suitable.

All injection treatments:

  • Are preceded by a specialist assessment.
  • Are performed by an orthopedic specialist.
  • Are guided by ultrasound for maximum precision and safety.

Which injection treatment is right for your condition?

During a specialist assessment, we determine which treatment is medically most appropriate – and whether injection therapy is the right path at all.

Needle Fasciotomy

What is needle fasciotomy? Needle fasciotomy is a minimally invasive treatment for Dupuytren’s contracture, where thickened strands of connective tissue in the palm are divided with a fine needle so that the fingers can be straightened.

Benefits:

  • Fast treatment under local anesthesia.
  • Short recovery time.
  • Can be repeated if necessary.
  • No open surgery.

Barbotage

What is barbotage? Barbotage is used for calcific tendonitis of the shoulder, where calcium deposits in the shoulder tendons cause pain and reduced mobility. Under ultrasound guidance, the calcium is flushed and aspirated (suctioned out) via a thin needle.

Benefits:

  • Effective for long-term calcific shoulder pain.
  • Reduces pain and inflammation.
  • Improves shoulder mobility.

Barbotage + Cortisone Injection In some cases, barbotage is combined with a cortisone injection in the bursa to further reduce inflammation and provide faster pain relief following the procedure.

Cortisone Injection – temporary pain relief for inflammation

Cortisone injections can be used for:

  • Joint conditions
  • Tendon inflammation (tendonitis)
  • Bursitis (inflammation of the bursa)

The treatment often provides rapid short-term pain relief but does not affect the long-term healing process.

At Elit Ortopedi, cortisone is used restrictively, always following a specialist assessment, and primarily when the goal is to:

  • Reduce inflammation.
  • Enable rehabilitation.
  • Relieve temporarily severe pain conditions.
